My main Axe right now it my 2004 Gibson Les Paul Special. The pickups are based upon the old Gibson PAF (Patent Applied For) that were made famous in the late 50's and early 60's models. The difference with these is that they are a little hotter (louder) and they have a slightly brigher tone. The picture below was taken from the Gibson website. I got luck that they had a picture of one in the same color as mine (worn cherry). I have to admit that I love the finish. It's not really a cherry color, but more of a red wine. It also doesn't have a glossy finish. The finish feels like sanded wood

I haven't tested this on my Linux machines yet, but there is an open source driver project for this at http://www.tanzband-scream.at/line6/.
