2006-07-12: Wow! It's been almost a year since I've posted here. For more regular updates on what's going on with me check our my new blog: http://www/vi411.org/.

2005-08-13: The SAG is currently being reviewed for grammar, which is a good thing. Not sure when this process will be done. In the next few weeks I will be posting the first draft of the next version. I have set a series of goals before reaching version 1.0 status, so this version will be .9.1. The deadline I have set will be November 15th.

2005-08-11: I was hoping that the forum would have taken off by now. I know that these things take time, and that this isn't really a site that would generate a lot of "social activity". But I figured at least 1 person would have joined by now. :-)

2005-08-04: Sorry I haven't posted in a while. The harddrive in my laptop died. I don't mean a little data corruption, I mean something mechanical in it died! It was making that clicking noise that says fsck isn't gonna do a darn thing. In fact, the BIOS didn't even see the drive anymore. I'm just glad I take my own advise and had a backup of my /home directory. As for the SAG, it's in and everything looks OK. I've already gotten started on the next version. On a side note, it's my youngest's 4th birthday today.

2005-07-25: I submitted the new version of the SAG for review at the Linux Documentation Project. The review process should take a few weeks to finish. In the meantime, I'd love to know what everybody would like to see for the next version. Drop a note in the forums.

2005-07-22: The deadline for submitting the new version of the SAG is getting closer. At the same time, my middle son has been having me read Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix every chance he gets. He's really excited to start Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I drives him crazy that I've alread read it and won't tell him what happens.

2005-07-19: I have set a deadline for submitting my new version of the System Administrators Guide. After speaking with some of the editorial staff at http://www.tldp.org/, July 31st will be the day I submit it by. It may take a few weeks after that for the editorial process to take place, but then it will be official. Today I have also uploaded the latest draft. The main things in the version are the first few chapters have been indexed, and there have been some minor rearrangement of a few sections.

2005-07-18: Friday night I took one of my boys to the local bookstore for the midnight release of the new Harry Potter book (The Half-Blood Prince). Needless to day he was excited and had a great time at the party. I haven't started reading it to him yet because I still haven't finished reading him the 5th book, The Order of the Pheonix. However, since I've already read The Order of the Pheonix, I decided that I it would be OK to read the new book. I finished it last night - WOW! I won't give away any spoilers, but it was great. A little dark for a kids book, but great none the less.

2005-07-15: I was planning on proof reading the SAG and submitting it for review at the LDP (Linux Documentation Project), but got side tracked my the lack of index at the back of the book. I therefore decided to construct a basic index before submitting it. I have been wanting to add an index, but wasn't sure how to do it. Until last night that is. I finally decided to "google" SGML index generation and found a perl script that can make generate one for me. I still think it's going to take longer than I hoped, but in the end it will be worth it.
